But if such causes ill health and is treatable it IS a disease is it not?
"Relief through drugs is ok temporarily"
Absolutely -- and guess what? This is the scientific consensus.
"SSRIs can cause"
Most drugs have side effects -- even those for physical ailments. More research, better diagnosis and better prescribing is the key here.
Take your last comment and reread it -- exactly why are disagreeing with my video?? It seemed to be similar to the viewpoint I presented.
Care to share this definition?
"Emotional problems dont cause physical illness."
Anxiety can in some cases lead to heart problems for example. Considering that anything affecting the brain is inherently either emotional or leads to an emotional reaction you are copping out with phrase 'physical' here.
"Yet they are being viewed and treated as such."
Brain is an organ -- it can, and does, malfunction just like any other organ.
A situation in your life and/or poor nutrition cause your brain chemistry to respond. The lack of proper nutrition starves your pituitary gland of the neccecary chemicals to make the proper amount of hormones. The result is a symptom. In the case of depression, the mood is telling you to address the issue. Drug not cure.
Cancer, cystic fibrosis etc. ?
"In the case of depression...Drug not cure."
Please watch the video because you a regurgitating a straw-man that I not only addressed but also went to great lengths to source a decent reference explaining it. I even reiterated this point in the comments.
The thing that bugs me most here is that the mainstream media reports this same straw-man, which only serves to fuel the misinformation already out there.
Ive seen a video tonight from scientology which claimed the brain was a shock absorber!
and those idiots claim to be the authorities of the mind. if you released a second version of this vid and added it, it would round of your video nicely. Starting at 5.28 watch?v=eJ6ZOGASB9Q&feature=user
I may well make use of that in a future vid. Cheers.
5/5 and fav.

I find that the cultie and the scientifically illiterate tend to have that reaction. The only solution is education.
"The bottom line is there is no proof of what causes depression."
Nothing is proved in science so I'm cutting that straw-man down form the off. There is, however, a wealth of scientific evidence that backs up the existence of depression. See for example the linked article on its biochemistry.
Yes and no. Some drugs cure problems while others keep them manageable. If I stabbed you and you put a bandage on the wound it would help your recovery. However, the bandage itself won't have cured anything -- does that mean you shouldn't use it? If you understand this example you should understand why your concept of drug treatment is misinformed.
Life changes/drugs are not mutually exclusive as your strawman insinuated.
In just the same way your stabbed arm may be recoverable without a bandage. It doesn't make it a good idea and can strongly reduce your chances of recovery. It boils down to the simple fact that neither you nor the CCHR have documentary and/or experimental evidence for better treatments. Until you can present such alternatives you are basically pissing in a fountain of knowledge with your own ignorance and misconceptions.
Strawman. Proof is not a concept in science -- evidence is. If you want to discuss scientific topics it would help if you bothered to learn the scientific method before doing so.
"these so called disorders are a result of a chemical imbalance within the brain."
This sentence is a strawman. It was also addressed thoroughly in the video. Because of this, I suspect that you are another ignorant misinformed cultie trying to keep up stats who never bother to even watch the video.
Experimental research. Are you really so dense/misinformed that you think these things are mere guesswork? Why don't you get a subscription to a scientific journal (I recommend pubmed) and find out how it is done?
"There are no solid facts to back any of it up;"
Forgive me for going to considerable time and effort to provide sources.
Finishing with an ad-hominem I see. Let me be clear about this so that even you could understand it -- you are railing against a body of scientific knowledge that you don't know even exists. Ignorance is curable with education. What is stopping you from going to a library and/or taking part-time college courses?
You flunked this for one simple reason - you never researched your position.
it's more likely than you'd think!
