So much America-bashing for nothing. This is a song about fear itself. If you listen to the lyrics, Bowie states, "I'm afraid of the world." Bowie chose to emigrate to America. Think, too, that Bowie was second on the hit list for the person that assasinated Lennon. Bowie's over-riding fear is tbat he would be shot while performing. It all adds up. Sometimes, it's just about the music and the musician. By the way, I'm Canadian.

I think you've got some very good points regarding the democrats. As for the European culture, that changes dramatically even within Europe. America just tends to be louder than everywhere else in the world and although stereotypes are a bad thing, many people (including myself) leave a visit to the US with those stereotypes confirmed. I couldn't agree more with your argument for the democrats though.
