Superman's main ability that makes him a hero is his powers and his dedication to using them for good, Batman's power is his training and his determination. Equivalently, Superman's foes are mostly superpowered, though not quite as powerful, and Batman's are smart, but not usually well trained fighters. Joker, Two-Face, Catwoman, Mr. Freeze, Riddler, etc. There are a few exceptions, but in a 1 on 1 fight with Batman, they don't stand a chance without using some underhanded tactics.

Its a wonder the justice league doesn't undergo perpetual law-suits. Though like Batman always said, Superman has always been the boy-scout. It really isn't common for him to think ahead to extensively.
