Of course they exaggerate, it's a LESSON. You have to be able to see what they're doing.
Fail.
D: Some people in ... ( 3 months ago by georgewu5)
D: Some people in the world needed to be pushed to learn something. If they did not enter competition, there was no drive for them to get ahead. For example, please tell me, did Michelangelo ever need to enter any competition to be a great artist? Secondly, there are so much politics in dance competion just because dance, like art, is a very subjective matter,"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder"....Unless one enter the track race or something similar, see who can run faster!---dancewu(dot)net
Most people are ... ( 3 months ago by georgewu5)
Most people are mediocre! they need to be told whether they are good or bad by other people. But the true artist knows the answer himself whether he is on the right track or not; if he cannot do that, he would be nothing but a mediocre himself also!---dancewu(dot)net
P: Years ago there ... ( 3 months ago by georgewu5)
P: Years ago there was a young man complained about a week-end dance organizer asked him to his week-end event, unless this couple did not want to win in the competition he was also a judge in it! That was 1995. Until recently the same "professional" criticized my International style dancing was out-of-date! So I rebulked,"you don't call Mozart's music is out-of-date just because he composed them 200 years ago?!" That is one of the reasons why I do not believe in competitions!--dancewu(dot)net
l: Just between you ... ( 3 months ago by georgewu5)
l: Just between you and me, I have spent 18 years to finished ten books on International Ballroom ten dances: Foxtrot,Waltz,Quickstep,Tango(inc.Argentine),Viennese Waltz,Rumba,Samba,Chacha,Paso Doble,Jive(inc.disco) 400 pages of free hand sketches & Autocad drawings, I am still in the middle revising them everyday. I took the time to study them only from the best:Hilton,Burns,Shirley ballas,Slavik,Allan,Michael,Sergey, etc.Alex Moore,Maxwell Biship,Bill Irvine,Popov(Russian champ)-dancewu(dot)net

excellent reply, dancingdusenberry. simply accurate and intelligent.
take a look at ... ( 3 months ago by larrybardo)
take a look at slavik's competition video. what he did in the comp is what he did in the lesson video. a good dancer has to be consistent to win. on the other hand, everybody makes small mistakes here and there at the comp. nobody is perfect.
ditch the drawings ... ( 3 months ago by larrybardo)
ditch the drawings and make some videos. learning from videos is much more effective than learning from drawing. well, people had no choice back in 40 years ago, of course, of course.
l: When I sketch ... ( 3 months ago by georgewu5)
l: When I sketch the figures, first I have to understand what I am doing, with observation and sketching, I already spent many hours more than learning it from an expensive instructor at $65 a lesson I paid for my Russian Champion's private lessons in Seattle,1992, besides once I drew them down, I do not have to take the same lesson again. Since then, I learned only from Hiltons, Burns and the best from their videos. In a way I spent no more money to learn from the best at home.-dancewu(dot)net
l: A mafia friend ... ( 3 months ago by georgewu5)
l: A mafia friend of mine who loves dancing, one time he told me that he tried to do the drawings like I did; but he could not. So I told him that not every body can do drawings, for those who cannot do drawings, they could be good for something else! You probably blong to that category!---dancewu(dot)net
instead of posting ... ( 3 months ago by larrybardo)
instead of posting the drawings which nobody wants to see on youtube, you are better off to post your donnie videos. we have seen hiltons dancing amateur latin. now it's time to laugh at donnie.
l: Now I recalled ... ( 3 months ago by georgewu5)
l: Now I recalled that people complainning about Donnie being the World Champion too many years. So you are one of those bad boys?! Please be grateful, if there was no Donnie who came to the U.S. in 1980's to learn the Latin dancing from an American, and went back to England to change the old Latin dancing, there would not be the fabulous Latin dancing in Blackpool today! The Cubans and the Pueto Ricans would have swamped guys like you into nothing! So be grateful!---dancewu(dot)net
My father graduated ... ( 3 months ago by georgewu5)
My father graduated from Peking university and went to Illinois for graduate school, all his life, he loved ballroom Dancing. I was married to someone who did not appreciate good music and dance, so I started dancing very late at the age way passed the competition participation. But I learn most of my dancing from my drawings of the World Champions. I enjoyed dancing therefore I danced, unlike most competitors motives! my ten books are basically for my own learning, hopefully to China someday!

Social dancers hate ... ( 2 months ago by georgewu5)
Social dancers hate International style dancers; South American dancers hate International dancers; Argentine Tango dancers hate International dancers.... It is my observation that the most hated one is the BEAUTIFUL dance one could dance in this world, simply because it is the most beautiful and most difficult dance to be learned,People gave it up for the easier ones but only attacking why international Ballroom Standard and Latin are so bad!Are they?! SOUR GRAPES! THAT IS ALL!--dancewu(dot)net

I have not seen ... ( 4 weeks ago by georgewu5)
I have not seen this guy for a long time until to-night. I met him in our dance club 16 years ago. One day he told me that he could never learn dancing from a book or a video. He always rushed to a lady who ever showed up in a dance 1st time & even married one for several months. Now he still could not dance the basic figures in any dance! Tonight he asked the prettiest lady to do an Argentine Tango. Well,he WALKED on the dance floor from the beginning to the end of the music!---dancewu(dot)net
I do not understand ... ( 1 week ago by daeuri)
I do not understand your need for sweeping generalizations. I am sure there as many forms of dance as there are languages and cultures. The challenge for each of us is to find the dance(s) that resonates within each of us. I find it tragic that too many people feel that, in order to celebrate their favorite form(s) of dance, they have to denigrate other forms. What a toxic waste of time and energy.
da: It started 10 ... ( 1 week ago by georgewu5)
da: It started 10 months ago,Salsa Latinos attacked the International Latin here, then the Argentine Tango people attacking the International Tango World Champions Marcus and Karen Hilton by calling names such as "ROBOTS","OSTRICH" etc. And then the younger International competition dancers(Aceyblade and larrybardo, etc.)attacked the World Champions Donnie Burns in order to win the World Championship!-The short history of down-grading the opponents for personal gains all here!-dancewu(dot)net
The issue is ... ( 1 week ago by daeuri)
The issue is tolerance. So long as you know what it is you like, what difference does it make that there are others who will criticize your choices? You can try to convince those people of the rightness of your choices, but in the end, those people are not living your life, and they can't stop you from liking what you like. These people are not worth your time unless you are more like them than you would care to admit (I am hoping that is not the case).
da: You have many ... ( 1 week ago by georgewu5)
da: You have many deep thoughts here! I have many personal reasons to do all these but I do not want to go into details for obvious reasons, but I thank you very much anyway. You have discovered what Benjamin Franklin had found in his life time; sadly to say that I am not there yet. But it would not be too long now. Because finishing my ten International Ballroom Dance books taking up most of my energy; plus a book on architecture about building housing in China.etc.........---dancewu(dot)net

D: I am 71 years ... ( 2 days ago by georgewu5)
D: I am 71 years old already. I have never been gay,and I have a grown daughter, but still wanted to learn how to twist my hips to do the CUBAN MOTION like this great champion did! You are only at your twenties, you still have a long way to go. Do not put your few years experience to judge until you see the world without the tinted eye-glasses! I bet you wished you could do the CUBAN MOTION as well as Slavik. If you cannot, then shut up and learn!---dancewu(dot)net
