I first heard Floyd in 84 when Learning to Fly premiered on MTV. I gradually accumulated their pre-break-up works.
After a few albums, I still had no concept of what I was in store for. A friend of my brother's gave me a tape one day, and informed me that the main track was over 20 minutes long. He assured me that if I would just be patient, it would be worth my while.
That track was Echoes. And it forever changed my world... as did Pink.

the build-up around 4:20 and the high note Gilmour hits at 4:24 .... say soooo much!!! I know it's heralded as a phenomenal solo, but I hoped to hear from others.... is it just me, or is it simply mind-blowing?!!

mmmmm...I respect nick for his always original and rythmically intersting fills and for choosing the ride cymbal so often over the hihat during many groove sections (breathe, have a cigar before verse 2, many others), I think he was the perfect match for the band, he served the feel of each song with a delicate touch as to not distract from what the song really was..short of genius, but a spectacular individual!

do this: go to amesterdam or Ninby in Australia or whatever and get nice quality "mushrooms" ...have damn and listen to this piece or the entire Echoes album ...and you will have the best trip possible...its just mesmerizing what this music gives you in a trip...not to strong otherwise you will miss the music details!!!
