Roger Waters, himself a legend with Pink Floyd, DID NOT write this melody. The melody is Morricone's! Waters wrote lyrics to it and sung the wrong which was independently produced, and apparently not entirely to Morricone's liking. I myself like it well enough. Both this and the song are two parts of a fantastic film score.
