i can tell by his form he needs a trainer. and i bet a nutritionist would help maximize his potential. obviously, not cheap.

His form requires constant teaching. Obviously we only could put up 6 minutes or so of an hour and a half and so I cut out most of the teaching parts.

We are in constant pursuit of correct form. We have spoken with a nutritionist and since then he has lost about 20 lbs. He still has a significant way to go in this area but he is eating much better than he was before we started workouts about 5-6 weeks ago.

I'd have him doing body weight jump squats and lunges....no reason to add on any additional weight with that poor form...but clearly he has a lot of potential, best of luck to him

We had started with body weight and only moved up to weight after some work at none. A return to body weight only is probably not a bad idea. Thanks for the thoughts.

He should do cleans. During the olympics one year, they measured the verticals of all of the athletes. Olympic weightlifters on average, had the highest verticals of all of the athletes, even the high jumpers. Most sport-related strength training at least includes power cleans.

I'm sure that he will grow into a good athlete someday. Being so tall at such a young age, though, he is probably also trying to develop some better coordination. It'll come in time. Keep working with him.

Should at least start getting the form on cleans down. Wasting your time with flat bench. If your going to bench do incline DB bench, otherwise have him work on pushups. DO more bodyweight squats, more abs, his core is very weak! At his age his body will respond to almost any type of training, I just hate to see a concentration on bodybuilder movements. The air alert program would do wonders for him, or any progression plyo system for that matter.
