(In 1898, Colonel Roosevelt quit his job as Secretary of State and, with his Rough Riders, launched from Tampa's Latin district Ybor City for the invasion of Cuba to start the Spanish-American War. When I lived there, Ybor was known as the Artistic district. Now it's called the Entertainment district.)
Callisto was a girl, I swear,
Though, now, she's turned into a bear!
Triple Goddess Artemis Diana/Selena Luna/Hecate the witch goddess ... "this big around!" ... Ocean(us) & Tethys ... Queen of Heaven ... (science/linguistics)
CALLISTO or The BEARS' TALE
Muse, I must tell the tale of Callisto Miller.
It's like Hero.dot.us meeting Phyllis Diller.

Callisto was a girl, I swear,
Though, now, she's turned into a bear!

The Great Bear, what you call the Big Dipper,
That's the one; that's her; that's Callisto Miller.
No, she doesn't get very high,
But, she's the largest object in the sky,
Far bigger than the Moon and the Sun -- Yes-I!
-- And a galaxy is in her right eye;
A black hole is her belly button.
Chasin' Capricorn and Aries, she's a glutton for mutton!
She's got a tail eleven l-l-l-l-light years long!
She's a downright appropriate subject of song!

About the creation of the constellation:
Death! -- Earthly life's cancellation,
But she's not without her consolation:
She's a-shinin' in Heaven as a constellation!

The views of Zeus ooze in through the city's East gate.
I sing "The King of this thing is for sure no cheapskate!"
At the Feast-of-All, they were servin' beefsteak,
And all of those olives and a piece of cheesecake.
There were sacrifices, bulls and stallions!
(This was many years ago, many thousands!)
Hecatacombs! Bulls and stallions,
A many-a millennium back, maybe millions!

norman sat bolt upright in bed upon awakening in the middle of the night singing, " callisto kodiak of the zodiak!"
"what is that??" i had to ask. *that* was part of a much larger poem which gave itself to the dreaming poet intact and survives here in part, if not in its dream-entirety.
moreover, at the time, as a performance device norm would often ask his audiences to give him a word and he would give them a poem with that word in it. for some time the younger crowd at the fire and water cafe in northampton, mass and also at daddy-o's in westfield, mass, where a cult of teenaged performance poets was flourishing at the time, would attempt to floor him by always shouting out the same word, "cheesecake!" imagine their surprise and delight when, instead of his stock response;" alright then, *i'll* choose the word!" he startled them by producing this poem.
