This is a look at Animas Forks, a former mining town and current ghost town outside Silverton, Colorado.
Animas Forks is where the Jeep roads Engineer Pass Road and Cinnamon Pass Road come together. Also nearby are Hurricane Pass and California Pass, as well as many MANY old mines.

Thanks JeepsterGal! I can't get enough of your videos, I've commented on some before. The area is still my home away from Iowa. I think we're planning an ATV trip to Ridgway state park again this year, instead of Jeeps. Keep em coming, they make me happy!

Heya, I have tons of photos of Ironton, but no video that I can recall, but I'll look. Wasn't able to make it down there for my usual July 4th trip but will go later this summer or fall...I can make a slideshow of Ironton if you like though...

Animas Forks is a great ghost town. I ran into an insane man there three years ago. That's not an exaggeration. In my 58 years, I have never run into such a nut-case in my life. I almost had to shoot him.

A jeep,video camera and editing equipment. A great combination. I envy you lol..... My wife and i want to go to Animas forks but dont have a good 4x4......oh well. maybe someday.

Hey there, you don't need a 4x4 to get to Animas forks from Silverton. You can take the highway to Silverton and then take the dirt road to Animas Forks. It's only rough AFTER Animas Forks, because it's the beginning of several 4x4 roads such as Cinnamon and Engineeer. But you can get to Animas Forks just fine in a passenger car!

Check out my San Juan mountain videos...you should do the Alpine Loop (Engineer and Cinnamon), Ophir, Imogene, Last Dollar Road, Corkscrew, Hurricane Pass, California Gulch, Owl Creek Pass, Stony Pass, Animas Forks...everything going out of Silverton is amazing, you can't go wrong.
