Socialist John McCain by the Southern Avenger

Uploaded by: southernavenger
Video Description:
When presumptive Republican presidential nominee John McCain expressed his belief that it was the government's role to take care of Americans, SA decided to outline not only the dismal failure of social welfare - but how McCain differs little from Barack Obama on a crucial issue to conservatives.

Romney is a ... ( 5 months ago by Thrashfan21)
Romney is a conservative I thought you would have seen the light by now Southern Avenger.Romney was the only candidate in the race for the GOP nomination who represented the 3 legs of the Republican "Stool", which by the way helped to get Ronald Reagan elected. Was his healthcare plan perfect? No but it relied on personal repsonsibility and involved no tax raises or government takeover.
And the state ... ( 5 months ago by overmind25)
And the state doesn't have enough money for the plan. What a surprise.

So you are what you consider a true conservative?
They did have ... ( 5 months ago by Thrashfan21)
They did have enough money but you can blame Deval Patrick and the Democratic legislature for squandering it.
I really don't like ... ( 5 months ago by overmind25)
I really don't like arguing over who fits under what label because they can mean so little now. I like dealing with each issue alone. Romney is wrong on the war, wrong on big government, and is sometimes right on abortion.
Aristocracy is just ... ( 5 months ago by overmind25)
Aristocracy is just a later creation of family power that has no merit and religions are just fairy tales. Your type of conservatism is an ancient pipe dream. But don't worry. Conservatives always worship dead liberals. Even that terrorist Reagan loved Paine.
What do issues mean ... ( 5 months ago by maxime32)
What do issues mean without ideological context? If you take a stand on the war based on 'reason', on what principles do you base your 'reason'?
There are different ... ( 5 months ago by maxime32)
There are different types of aristocracy, the only point is that true conservatism is not egalitarian in either the liberal (legal equality) or socialist (material equality) senses. Reagan loved Paine because both are basically liberal, droning on about abstract 'freedom' from the State.
Pat Buchanan, ... ( 5 months ago by maxime32)
Pat Buchanan, Charles De Gaulle, to a lesser extent, Vladimir Putin, certainly Hamilton and John Adams, Huckabee is slightly conservative...old-school Southern Democrats are a little conservative but obviously there are few of them now...Otto von Bismarck...the European Christian Democrats and 'One Nation' Tories before the sexual revolution and globalisation corrupted them...does that paint a clear enough picture?
Well I applaud ... ( 5 months ago by Thrashfan21)
Well I applaud Romney for trying to get something done on healthcare. If Republicans want to remain relevant in politics they have to be the party of ideas.Health care reform, tax reform and social security reform are just 3 off the top of my head. Republicans need to offer conservative solutions to each of these. I think what McCain meant was that government should be a safety net for those less fortunate.

No I was just messing with you and being an ass. I don't like Romney or McCain though.

I wouldn't consider Huckabee to be "slightly conservative". He raised taxes more than Bill Clinton did as governor of Arkansas. He pushed for financial aid (tax dollars) for illegals to attend college. He supports the big-government foreign policy of the neo-cons. And the list goes on.
Yes, raising taxes ... ( 4 months ago by maxime32)
Yes, raising taxes to balance the budget and building some state bureaucracy is not anti-conservative, unless you think all European monarchs pre-French Revolution were raving leftists.
Huck is mainly conservative because he combines social conservatism with an emphasis on maintaining the standard of living of regular people (neither 'free trade' nor 'equality'). Yes, he is bad on foreign policy but also not a zealot. He defended the war because we're there, didn't say he would have done it
Notice I said ' ... ( 4 months ago by maxime32)
Notice I said 'slightly conservative' not very right-wing. Duncan Hunter is more conservative. Ron Paul is NOT, he is a very ideological classical liberal, he puts freedom from the state above stability, order, security, etc.
But all the same if I had had a vote in a GOP primary, I would have voted for Paul as he was clearly the most honest, the war is the most important issue, and even Austrian economics might be better than corrupt privatisation of expanding govt services.
Modern day ... ( 3 months ago by elperropatron)
Modern day republicans favor the worst kind of socialism. Corporate Socialism. When Wall Street wins, they keep it all. When Wall Street loses, the losses are shared by all. Furthermore, they take public money and redistribute it to a handful of corporations by funneling it through World Bank loans and grants to 3rd world nations with the stipulation that the funds be spent on projects and products provided by favored companies like Bechtel, Halliburton, etc.
Activities that ... ( 3 months ago by SneakinSal)
Activities that began as social& non-market - based on shared values and norms have their roots in social and cultural bonds rather than monetary goals. Societies based on market exchange reflect only those underlying values and norms that consider price. They do not recognize any other obligations. Market economies are disembedded from social elements of society & thus instead of economy being embedded in social relations, social relations are embedded in the economic system -

I agree with you on your hatred of corporatism, and it should be stopped. It's proof that socialism has been and will continue to be unworkable wherever it's implemented. However, it's not just modern Republicans that are supporting it. There are many Democrats that support it and welfare statism as well. There are not many differences between the two parties, modern day liberalism is the supremely dominant philosophy (yes, even within the Republican party, just look at GWB).

Tonight was the second presidential debate. John Mccain right off the bat went socialist in his first answer, by saying he wants the treasury to reassess all the bad mortgage loans. Despite the fact that it would be way too expensive.
I disagree about ... ( 2 months ago by BronzeEleven)
I disagree about that definition of conservatism SA, conservatives very much support 'big government' when it comes to policing morallity and civic rights. Natural distrust for the government would be libertarianism, conservative republicans hide behind that false attribution to sound appealing.

Good point. Conservatives love many forms of big government!
Well, ... ( 2 months ago by SketchyBack)
Well, conservativism can be either fiscal or social. 'True' conservatives are fiscal conservatives, i.e. anti-big government. Social conservatives are not necessarily fiscally conservative, although policing morality and civil rights is not at all incongruent with slashing taxes and small government. Neoconservatives are fiscally liberal, and may be socially liberal: they support large government, large military, free-trade, foreign intervention, and are more neutral on social policy.

Its never socialism for conservatives when the money is being redistributed to a corporate entity. How many airlines have we bailed out because they were too big to fail? Gimmie a break. If you believe in capitalism you cant support corporate bailouts and while conservatives like southernavenger will burn the flag if taxes are raised $1 per year to get get homeless vets off the street,he'll sit silently while we bail out u.s.air one more time. No conservative is pushing for a flat tax now either
