rofl because in the last 10 or so years Automatics have become superior. its not a argument of whats girly or not its called performance. IE formula,Indy Car all use tapshifts, lambo, ferrari, all tapshits Stick shifts are ancient slow cumbersome ways of driving a car. and for straight line performance. a pure automatic cannot be beat. fastest dragtimes in the world are held by autos.

Porsche sells a higher percentage of automatic 911's in Germany than in the US. FYI.
Also, this vehicle IS available with a 6 speed. Also, Ferrari's are almost all sequential automatic transmissions now.

The big mistake that GM made for years was making cars to please you. All the while losing market share because they didn't appeal to a broader audience. Now that they bring the G8, with a real shot at appealing to the import defectors, you trash talk it. Funny.

david, when you live in a real city, manual is a waste of time and energy. hell, i CAN drive manual, but why?
there was a time they were marginally cheaper than autos...not anymore. they used to give better mileage...not anymore.
in short, living in a city with any traffic, there's NO logical reason to buy manual.

The car is designed in Australia...the motor's American...the rubber on the wheels is probably from Vietnam...the springs are probably German...the stereo is probably Japanese...but it's a nice car.

This is why I chose to buy a G8 instead of something like a Mazdaspeed 3 or a Subaru Impreza WRX too. They only come in manuals around here. I wanted something sporty but I didn't want to get a manual too since I lived in the city. And the G8 seemed the best deal since they have automatics of them everywhere.

We actually do have factories in Australia that manufacture tyres, automotive suspension parts, including springs, and windscreen glass. Holden even build their own engines and export them to other parts of the world. The steel and aluminium is manufactured in Australia from iron ore and bauxite that is mined in Australia.

The manual is only available in the GXP with the gas sucking 6.2 Pontiac/GM should have offered the manual in the 3.6 V6 and 6.0 GT models as well. Ford/GM/Chrysler thinks everyone wants automatics - why not offer a 6 speed manual (even the Hyundai Tiburon SE has a 6 speed ZF manual). That is why I still buy German/Japenese - I have options. Ford will not offer the Nav system in a Fusion with a manual. I want to support American cars mfgs, but they don't give me options so I buy foreign.

It is available in Australia with a 6 speed manual with a 3.6 litre 195kW V6 engine. Go to the Holden website and look at Commodore SV6.

I never understood US car makers' obsession to not offer the option of a manual transmission.
Unless I have 2 cars,I own a stick.
From shit boxes to the nice ones,very few cars are offered with a manual.
I almost bought a Lincoln LS6 a few years back until I found out they discontinued the availability of the manual.
I always said they should have offered a high performance version of the 98-2004 STS with a 6spd,maybe from the Vette.
But as much as I love that car,it is front wheel drive.

The Saab 9 3 only gets 24 MPG and my BMW is worse than that.
I am thinking about one of these but the base model will be good for me, why does anyone need over 400 HP on American road?
If they had a manual transmission in the base 6 cyl it would be a no brainer and I would already have one.

I guess some people just have to have a manual. Are they claiming the GXP Manual or Auto does 0-60 in 4.7? If stick, GXP doesn't seem worth the upgrade with just .6 seconds shaven off the 0-60 from the Auto GT.
