Wow...honestly, this vid has been out for like forever and they are just getting it now at the begginning of 2007....They wouldn't kill it, it's just the case of extinction, where an animal or organism has reacheded its evolution limits, preventing it from developing anylonger.

Jesus man, they didn't kill it for "projects". If it was swept out of its depth by currents like the reporter said, the decompression would've killed it - in some other shots you can see the gills blown out. The shark was dying anyway. So if a rare fish comes up to the surface and dies, why not study it? Why not learn all you can, and find ways to protect the rest of its species, help it flourish? Don't judge just because you don't understand.

That really anthropomorphizes an imperfectly understood phenomenon. Not all beached whales are old or ill; some researchers have suggested that, in the case of whales, shipping and industrial noise or pollution might be responsible for disrupting the animals' navigational senses, leading to accidental beachings. Generally, non-social animals aren't cognizant enough to "go somewhere to die", and will continue to follow hunting instincts until they are unsuccessful for too long, and starve.

I was just generalising the topic, so as not to go into to much detail so i didnt bore people. Granted shipping noise can hinder the animals navigation, but on average, to sum up the topic, alot of ceatations beach them selves at the end of their life, well orcas do sometimes get stuck because they beach themselves to catch their prey some of the time, but you do make correct points and i appriciate your input, cheers.

Aside from the whole "they didn't kill it on purpose"... this specific specimen simply belongs to a species of shark which has been around for 8 million years, NOT actually being 8 million years old itself (this specific shark)
