I'd love to get paid making music. That's cool if it's working out for you. I think people should do what they love for a living. I really want to turn my music from the rough little 4-track tape recorded seeds into polished and full sounding productions. I never had a computer until last year. It's very confusing to a beginner. Did you have to get training to use your system? I'd like to but it's a little out of my range. Any good books or DVDs you can recommend? Peace.

Herbie Hancock is awesome and a natural at rhythms - he can improv better rhythms than most musicians can make while sitting down and trying to write ones.

True but Herbie Hancock has one of the deepest replies to the interviewer - actually, he wasn't even responding to the interviewer's comment, he was just saying what he wanted to say.

Or was the interviewer quite innocently making an observation of the African influence he heard in the music, with no intent to really denigrate Herbie and Quincy?
It's funny, because I read your comment before hearing the part you indicated- I thought it was just an observation of what he heard. And despite all the stereotypes you allude to, I think it's a compliment and shows their connection to their ancestral music.

Boy, Herbie sure can articulate when he talks. Most musicians fall apart in front of a camera, Herbie speaks like hes talking right to you. Awesome video, man I wish I had all of those vintage synths and samplers.

Its been 8 going on 9 years for me. I started with Acid Music 1.0, those were the days. Around 2004, I was soooo sick of computers crashing on me, I went hardware and analog, started with a 6 channel mixer, and a JVC cassette deck, and used a Akai AX-60 analog synth, Akai S612 sampler, and the original Korg Electribes. Wish i knew what i was doing back when I made it, I have a Marantz tape deck that sounds amazing, and can get awesome recordings out of. But thats the past!

I agree with the interviewer, Herbie, and Quincy; No matter your sophistication, background, or whatever, the FUNK should bleed through your instrument. My African blood is Funk type positive. I love the mark Herb and Quincy made in music, and I truly appreciate this video. So no matter what anyone may say, have a beautiful Funkin' day!!!

This is a historic interview of two of Chicago's finest legends of music. I just love how Herbie allows new technology help him create music, while Q is looking on and studying with Herbie.
