I DO cry every time ... ( 1 month ago by jivepatrolmusic)
I DO cry every time! It's so absolutely American that I can't help it. The Hollywood Studio Symphony is ABSOLUTELY SICK! That was probably their 1st or 2nd take of Williams' piece. Business as usual for them.
I dare any ... ( 3 weeks ago by UseSumLogic)
I dare any orchestra on this planet (high school orchestras included) to attempt to reproduce this theme with the same emotion.
If you can, watch what happens to your goddamn audience. Magic?
I can agree with ... ( 2 weeks ago by filathor)
I can agree with you in some of what you say actually,. but hey its all classical music wether we like it or not,. and of course JW bases his music on what music composers he listened to when he was young and what he learned at school ,. of course all music maker does the same,if you like someones music and you want to sing or make something of course you sing or play your fav music,. JW does the same,. he knows how to write classical music, he understands the orchestra..

I would call, JW a modern classical composer, a Bach, or Stravinskij( sorry about the pronouncing) of our time,. he Is just as good and he really knows how to write music, composers nowa days
i couldn't call him ... ( 2 weeks ago by tubabacon)
i couldn't call him a classical composer, because he is a 20th century/post modern composer. the classical period was from 1730 1820. so technically he is not a classical composer. and once again i could hardly call him "just as good" as Bach, mozart, or Stravinsky.
but tell me this ... ( 2 weeks ago by filathor)
but tell me this why does the old composers get all the attension, about theyr music, sonate this and fugue that,. opus here,. I have tried so many times to like it but its just to...,I dont know the word,. but JW`s themes just soar into you and takes you ona a journey. I know that JW is to recogniced as a classical composer and if you even mention his music most classical lovers just frown ,. hehe, but come on move on a little and get some new impulses,. i know ,i knowI just had to

well once again ... ( 2 weeks ago by tubabacon)
well once again he's not a classical composer, he is a 20th century composer. and please don't take this as an insult like a lot of people would, its not meant to be. but the reason that john williams music is so much more appealing is because it is simpler music. there are rules to part writing and to counterpoint, that he will break because he knows that he can get away with it and people will love it no matter what. another reason people love him is because, he's the only composer in our time

I agree, have you heard the "real" classical music cds he has made??
thats pretty awesome writing, any how, he is the only composer of the old school in our time,. thanks :))
What do you mean by ... ( 2 weeks ago by TromboneConductor767)
What do you mean by "The real classical music cds"? If your talking about him conducting classical/romantic/impressionist music, then yes. If your talking about his 20th century/post modern concert music then also yes, but that's not classical music.
Most 20th century ... ( 2 weeks ago by TromboneConductor767)
Most 20th century music is about breaking the rules. I don't think a composer has strictly followed the rules since the classical era. After that the Romantics and the Impressionists started pushing the envelope and breaking the rules etc. By the time we got to the 20th century/post modern/minimalistic music the rules became more guidlines than rules.

ok :) i like to call it modern classical music,. even tough its not real classic classical music,. but any how I perfer JW s music anytime,or even Gavin Greenaways music for Illuminations, rather than classical music that seems for me a little to dull,. even tough there are music in that genre wich is quite good,.

Uh -- most of these ... ( 1 week ago by darkprose)
Uh -- most of these points are incorrect. Williams writes pure music as well as scores for film and television. He has written cantatas, concert pieces, concerti, etc. His chief idiom for film is largely late Romantic or early modern, if you prefer - especially Stravinsky and Wagner. Finally, he is not the only composer of out time - where do you get that from? Barber, Hanson, Bernstein, Glass, Kilar, Orff, Richard Strauss - these are all composers "of our time." Simpler music? Compared to what?
I think that ... ( 1 week ago by jivepatrolmusic)
I think that darkprose is right. JW can, and has, written cantatas etc. It's simply human nature that things have to evolve and change. How boring would it be to have things still written in "classical" style, with all of those part-writing rules still in place? Tubabacon: "get away with get it"? How about evolve? The rules have been there to be broken!
Thank you. ... ( 1 week ago by darkprose)
Thank you. Certainly a musician as educated and professional as Williams is aware of the musical languages open to him -- compare this to his "Soundings." The latter is more akin to Debussy or Messiaen in its orchestration and tonality. If Williams choses a more romantic style, it certainly isn't for the sake of convenience, but rather for context. When you are using leitmotifs, in Star Wars, say, for the sake of narrative, a more open and tonal ambiguity is less attractive.
