Miserere Mei Deus - Kings College Chapel Choir

Uploaded by: notyobs
Video Description:
Allegri's setting of Psalm 51. Introduced by Barry Rose, from a 1987 programme which includes Barry Rose talking to the Choir's director, Stephen Cleobury about how he trains his choristers (that will follow seperately).
I have had to edit out one verse I'm afraid to make it fit on Youtube. I took out one where the cameras spent most time gazing at the stained glass windows.

Two years after 9-11 on the anniversary I was sitting in my car. This song came on. I saw a vision in the field I was staring at while it played. Men and women that died on 9-11 starting filling up the field. They wore simple business clothes that blew in the wind. They sang this song to me with the radio. They wanted me to tell everyone they were OK, and not to be sad. It was one of the most beautiful and comforting moments of my life, and I know this holy music lended itself to the moment.

Delusions are like that. There are kids who swear they've seen Santa because that's what they wanted to see. Not meaning to be offensive, but I find religious ignorance hard to tolerate, especially given the violent history caused by religious delusions (eg. 9/11 was caused because of religious delusions about souls and afterlives).

Alhamdolillah.
Imagine what it must sound like when Hazrat Daud (AS) himself sung it and the hills and trees sung it as well. (David had the best voice amongst all humans)
Imagine what Hazrat Israfeel (AS) must sound like. His is the best voice amongst angels.
Anyways for those of you who understand it. Check the Quran out.
It is neither their meat nor their blood that reaches Allaah, but it is piety from you that reaches Him." [Al-Hajj (22):37]
Same source anyone???
Peace.

Incredible piece of music that reflects the season/occasion of the church year it was written for. It is so profound and moving - even if those who are non-christians who listen to this are inspired by its beauty.
It is amazing how this piece, over 370 years old, still touches the hearts of those who hear it. I wish ALL people would just take the time to just LISTEN to music like this - maybe people would be more kind and understanding of one another - the world would be a much better place.

Requiem - John Rutter / The Lord is my Shephard (Pslam 23) - John Rutter.
Please let me know if you have a chance to listen to some of my recommendations - some of this music is here on You Tube! Enjoy!
