Yeah sure, put a reactor in space so if it melts down the radioactive materials fall to earth and polute the entire atmosphere. great idea smart one. oh and how the fuck are you gonna get the power back to the planet?

Hey Nordland, you numb nut. WTF did you get WWII involved in this argument, it has nothing to do with CNPP tragedy. What a dumb ass. Now, do you really think that whatever BS you say here matters well it doesn't. Nobody gives a damn about your hatred towards Russian people because you can't do spit about it.

I was only 11 years old when this happened. I didn't fully grasp the enomity of this tragedy until now. The images of the gaping hole that housed reactor #4 are perhaps the most haunting I have seen and I don't think I'll ever forget them.

3:10 appears to be Diyatlov himself.. the man most "blame" for the fault of the reactor's failing. (considering he went outside of specified boundaries for the test...)
3:06 - its unlikely, but has a very strong resemblence to Leonid Toptinov(sp?).. "helmsman" for the reactor core that was given instructional duties by Diyatlov.
I swear that's actually Diyatlov. Yes.. even though he was in the control room at the time of explosion and some time thereafter, he didn't pass on until 1995.

There is a sying - "Nearly" doesn't count. First russian sub also nearly blew up. And in the end only in USSR the bordery of "nearly" was crossed.

I didn't make that video, shithead. The creator used sarcasm to show the standards of the USSR back then rather than being one of the 9001 people who say "WOMG USSR s so bd bcuz dem plant blew up!!!!!!!!!111", he used a different way but delivers the same message.

But Chernobyl did to an extent represent the USSR. The disaster at Chernobyl was a MICORCOSM
But Chernobyl can ... ( 11 months ago by DBrown28)
But Chernobyl can be seen as a microcosm of the entire Soviet System. It was poorly designed like Reactor #4. And it wasn't one man's errors it was a large handful of men who made drastic errors. It was men in the control room as well as the men who commishioned the reactor in the first place. If the USSR cared more about quality and less about quantity, Chernobyl never would have happened.

I never said it represented the country,
and yes, it was a bad reactor type. The RBMK type reactors were less safe then the other reactor types of the day. They were just cheaper.

I don't hate ... ( 11 months ago by DBrown28)
I don't hate Communism. I think that Marx made several valid points in his Manifesto. I think that the key issue here is that there is no true "utopia", WHETHER IT'S A COMMUNIST OR A CAPITALIST VISION. We point to Chernobyl and say that it was Communism's fault. But how many people spend their entire lives in poverty in my country, the most capitalistic nation on earth? All in all don't base your beliefs on ideology alone because there is a lot of gray area in life

i think it would of been a different story had it happened on that scale in say the usa,i mean russia has expendable manpower who didnt really have a say in the matter,i mean truthfully without being a cowardly custard, who would willingly go and clean a horribe shitty mess like that, with certain agony as a paycheck?i mean most of those were givin a fkin shovel and a kick up the backside, but alas they did a job of hero,s and cannot be forgotten
