shouldn't the person behind you not be that close? i mean they need to have at least 1 car length and not tail gate. i can understand if you slam the brakes that's hazardous. but simple gradual slowing of speed shouldn't be hazardous, your lights do go on back there.

That's pretty much going to be the single biggest pitfall on the driving test. My right distance estimates are really poor, so I'm either way too far from the curb, or I'm simply hitting the curb.
