I doubt that the people of Afghanistan have forgotten that it was the United States that financed, trained and armed the Mujahideen in the 1980s, essentially creating the modern Afghani jihadist movement and paving the way for a devastating civil war and the tyrannical rule of the Taliban.

It's such a difficult situation but at least the lesson to be learned should be that once the Russians had been defeated, there should have been vigilance over who succeeded them. Democracy is a just cause but it should be followed everywhere not just where the money is.

He says that he likes the people of Afganistan. Yet he and the men he supports still kills.

When they talk ... ( 8 months ago by KenMacMillan)
When they talk about Russia, they fail to mention that Afganistan would have been defeated if America didn't help them. We should mobilize the nation for war & take down Suadi Arabia, Iran, Baharian, & Pakistan. Just think, Oil would be $0.00 per barrel. China could help, they have North Korea in their back pocket. That would prevent nucular war. I'm sure they would love to control an oil nation or two.

I find it amusing how these people always talk about the fact that they have to win their wars before withdrawal can even be considered, but they refuse to define and specify what victory means.
Because we are not ... ( 8 months ago by richardrichard07)
Because we are not fighting a conventional war. Victory in Iraq would be the total defeat of all sunni insurgent groups, shia militias, Iranian proxies, al qaeda and all the other terrorists. Eventually the Iraqis will be able to deffeat them but until then coalition forces cannot afford to draw back. If we cut and run now, like cowards, we will only have to return at a later date and it will be far worse than ever before.

A retreat of the United States from Vietnam would be a communist victory of massive proportions
and would lead to World War three. It would not bring peace, it would lead to more war.

Wrong. They do ... ( 5 months ago by richardrichard07)
Wrong. They do define victory. In Iraq victory has been defined from the onset as a stable, peaceful, democratic Iraq. This is already materialising, partly as a consequence of the US coalition surge. In the case of Afghanistan victory is defined as the same. Once coalition forces have defeated terrorists and Taliban insurgents in the south then we shall have victory there.

Now the argument ... ( 5 months ago by danger0usknowledge)
Now the argument goes to the schools and the happy girls in Afghanistan...where the war
was supposed to happen. The problem is it
could not be sustained. The idea was to
strike, establish a govn't, let the
Taliban regroup, strike again over and
over and the acronym OIL. OIL, Israel,
geopolitical leverage. Meanwhile the
poppies grow and grow suppling everyone
including the Turks, Taliban, Israeli's,
US politicians who suddenly have to
leave office to spend time with family.
