When the USA shocked Russia, 4-3, at the 1980 Lake Placid Winter Olympics, Curt Chaplin was covering the game as a sports reporter for the ABC Radio Network. Standing on a camera platform in the crowd, he did play-by-play of the entire game into his tape recorder, capturing the event on tape forever. Now, after 25 years, these tapes have been rediscovered and matched to the video. The result is a dramatic, stirring and completely original experience for sports fans all over the world. i did hear what the frog said and i watched the race. it was close and exciting, but the soviets were supposed to blow us out in this game, afterall we played them 2 weeks prior to the olympics and lost like 12-2. after this game i bet everyone over the age of 12 knew that we'd beaten the commi's...id be willing to bet most of america (and the world) didnt give a rats ass about this swimming event
but at least we won, and it was somewhat exciting

The relay was awsome I agree with you, it was all the way french until the last second... but com on... this is HOCKEY and a hockey game lasts 1 hour! and like a month before the USA win the soviets beat em 12 - 2 man com on that was just epic

The reason this is more of a miracle compared to the 400 is that these two countries were in a cold war!
The russians were full of pros who had been playing together for a long time, the americans were full of newly met college kids.
The 400 consisted of two countries, some trash talk, and a team of the best on usa that pulled together to win in the end.
Miracle on Ice wins hands down, there was much more tension than the 400.

I was a sophomore in High School when this game aired on ABC. I remember watching it live, and could not believe my eyes. The most stirring moment was not the game itself but rather the deafening roar of the crowd, chanting USA!, USA!, USA!

Anybody have any international/foreign calls of this game? The 2006 FIFA World Cup Grosso goal vs Germany is something else to watch and listen to with the different announcers' emotions. Check out "Grosso Del Piero Caressa Show" for one. But certainly no Phelps swim relay. HA HA HA HA HA! Swim relay? Give me a break. Would pawn or tool be more applicable in this context? To even mention that in the same breath as this- let alone the same atmosphere- you'd have to be delusional.
