USuperPower-war on xmas.
would you also say "merry christmas" to a jewish person like evan? or a Buddhist? Or Hindi? if so, you're an idiot.
i'm so sick of the christian persecution complex. you're fucking 82% of this country's population, now quit talking about people trying to 'attack' what you believe."
all we ask is that you understand that we're a mixed and FREE secular society here in america. that means respect other religions and quit asking to be a part of the government.

whomtheSonsetsfree Thank God for Jesus Christ!
good for you.

smackrightdown - Christmas is an American tradition and if a Jew or Buddhist or Hindi gets offended when someone wishes them Merry Christmas then too bad. I don't get offended when someone says happy hanukkah as I know it's meant as a warm gesture.

i didn't say they'd get offended. i said you're an idiot if you do it.
and christmas is a CHRISTIAN tradition. While it's true, most Americans are Christians, millions of us aren't. that is why, christmas and all other christian rituals and beliefs are not a part of government. because we are a SECULAR STATE.
Thank you! ( 1 day ago by whomtheSonsetsfree)

completely not the point. the fact remains that it is a Christian holiday. if christians want to open it up to other people, that's nice. but our government simply should have nothing to do with it.

Christmas is NOT a ... ( 1 day ago by aReasonableGuy)
Christmas is NOT a Christian tradition; its origin is secular; non-Christians were apparently looking for an excuse to celebrate. That Christmas is a secular holiday is most obvious by examining television "Christmas specials" of the past 30 years: With the exception of "Little Drummer Boy," no popular Christmas program even hints at the existence of Jesus; they all focus on a talking snowman, flying reindeer, and a jolly fat man in a red and white suit who doles out gifts to good boys & girls.
While Christmas is ... ( 1 day ago by aReasonableGuy)
While Christmas is celebrated worldwide by (most?) Christians, it is also celebrated by many non-Christians (probably not many Jews/Muslims). And though the U.S. is a melting pot of cultures, Christmas has been a part of U.S. culture since its beginning. Christmas has been celebrated by the vast majority of Americans, Christian or non, without complaint until recently. Christmas is an AMERICAN tradition, and "progressives" should stop trying to "cleanse" us of it in the name of tolerance.

The people that celebrate Christmas the most are communists in China ;-)

Christmas is for everyone except liberals. They only celebrate Halloween because the get to dress up like the ghouls they are and receive handouts from every door they knock on.

what's the difference between believing in witches and believing in zombies?
you do realize that both christmas and halloween are pagan rituals in their origin. halloween was a harvest ritual and christmas was a celebration of the shortest day of the year (thus the lights)

You won't see a nativity scene on virtually any Christmas TV special program. Obviously the nativity scene is a symbol of Christianity, as witches, etc are symbols of paganism. But I bet you don't lobby to keep government agencies from putting up cobweb & spider decorations near the end of October.

I don't lobby to keep government agencies about xmas either. but do i think that they should decorate for halloween? no. for precisely the same reason. it's none of their business.

i don't care what tv stations air. they are (mostly) private companies and are entitled to act as they see fit. you could have the 'nativity scene channel' and i wouldn't give a rat's ass about it.
but our government needs to stay the fuck out and vice versa.

Utah State Senator Chris Buttars is attempting to pass a bill to encourage people in his state to say, 'merry christmas'.
sir, you are a douche.

smackrightdown - "you could have the 'nativity scene channel' and i wouldn't give a..."
My point was that Christmas is actually a secular holiday, at least the way mainstream America celebrates it.... Just like Halloween.
As far as your concern about the government needing to "stay the f**k" out of it, may I remind you that our government is "of the people, by the people." So long as it does not sanction one religion to the exclusion of others, we're OK. Why not live a little & have fun?

smackdown is getting lump of coal from Newt Grinchrinch for Christmas ;-)
Oh wait, neocon Newt Gingrich is now an "environmentalist". Or at least he plays one on TV along with Pelosi. Actually, since his "Contract with America" didn't have many accomplishments. He is now a co-author of a "Contract with Earth". He really has reversed his evil, earth hating ways! Miracles do happen!
