Eastwood portrayed Charlie Parker in "Bird". Gordon did star in a movie called "Round About Midnight" shortly before his death.

Forest Whitaker played Charlie Parker in Eastwood's "Bird."He was just fine, but Dexter's portrayal of the fictional Dale Turner in "Round Midnight" will crack your heart. He was so brilliant. The only time I ever saw him was at Blues Alley in DC around 1982. He was in good health, but sat to play the sax because he said otherwise he would loom over everyone else. (He was 6'5".)

I cried when this man died. I took up the axe after hearing Bird, somewhere back in '86. It was the big Dex who shaped me and taught me everything an axeman needs to know. The movie came out in '87 and I've seen it almost every year . . .
