I didnt mean to offend anyone, when I was a kid , I loved their music, still do. But the words of the songs sound depressing, especially Superstar. Ive read throughout the years that Karen had a very unhappy love life and a dominearing Mother. That could have caused her self destructive behaviour.

wonderful beautiful song,and it is not depressive instead it is the reality of this life,not everything is only happiness 24/7 but there are alot of good and nice peoples in pain for whatever reason and it is a beautiful thing to sing about,and show instead of some emotional constipated peoples that claim to be happy all the time and in reality are a fake!Karen was great very feeling and touchy songs she sung for us!

What a shame we lost all the performers with REAL TALENT. Now, we are stuck with garbage lyrics sung by no-talents whose voices are modified by the studio equipment to sound passable. Oh, and to all those out there who think they are "it" because they do "rap and hip-hop" - you also are zero talent compared to the Motown generation; now THEY knew how to sing and tell a story and move! And the music industry doesn't understand why music sales have tanked? - it's not a recession killing sales!

I agree with most of what you say retrojoet, but I still believe there's plenty of talent out there. Music execs unfortunately look for a package, then it ram in our ears with heavy advertisement!
That said, the Carpenters got a break from Herb Albert when no one else would've touched in the days of physcadelic, anti-war drug induced and political music of the time.
I'm not saying that music was bad, on the contrary, just that Karen Carpenter made someone rich on just her voice!!

You just don't know where to look ;) There are plenty of modern performers who have *real* talent. You can't honestly tell me that Adele, Vanessa Carlton, Ben Taylor, Coldplay, The Fray, Dougie McLean and other modern artists don't have talent. And I say this as a fan or music from modern day all the way back to very traditional folk music. Don't generalise, is my point :)

I do know where to look. I do realize that there is various types of music to suit individual tastes. What is sweet music to one is godawful noise to another. I can honestly tell you that I am indifferent to the sounds of the modern artists you list. Sorry, but our tastes are different.

Don't see yourself as a dork. Rather, see yourself as someone who likes a certain thing that others may not. I went through that phase years ago. Turns out the ones that laughed at me were secretly wishing they could break away from the crowd and be themselves. Life is more interesting and fun when you march to your own beat, rather than follow the crowd.

Yeah, you're definitely right. But still, the stark difference in my friends' tastes in music and my own is shown in the music that plays in our respective cars. Whoever is riding shotgun always tries to fidget with the radio because of what's playing. I think I'm the only guy I know who listens to Burt Bacharach. :/
