doesn't work with iphone 3g ver2.1. shows up in itunes 8 as a ringtone and on the iphone in the devices section of itunes but doesn't show listed as a ringtone on the iphone in settings>sounds>ringtone

I'd love to know why it's working for some people and not for me, I got my phone from the apple store on Friday 11/14 so I wonder if they have done something to block this kind of thing. I purchased a ringtone through itunes and now have a 'custom' section in ringtone setup on the phone but any other mp3 I try converting doesn't show up...any help appreciated.
The instructions here are very straight forward and the conversion actually works in itunes but not on my phone as a ringtone...

i have never figured out the reason why that happens, you can try to add ringtones by double clicking the m4r file from the desktop or folder, and you can try changing artist info and what not that might help

well that's strange, I had a feeling it may be a character length issue so I reduced the song title to 7 characters and it showed up in custom ringtones! I then tried to see what the character length limit was and ended up with the full song title and it still appears. Very confused but pleased!

try opening the file from desktop or folder with itunes closed.
itunes should open up and the file should be added as a ringtone

just ignore that and you will see in your setting that ringtone is synced

when you made file *.m4r just go to file-add file to library. And it will automatically make a custom ringtone... hope this help
