Seriously someone with an eye for the amazing grace and beauty of ballet need sto re- choregraph prokofiev's ballet .. the moevements do not in any way shape or form represent the beauty of ballet or do justice to the music .. sickening to watch ;0(

Its a poor adaption to the music . Its just not ballet !! Tchaikovsky's Swan lake's first attempt attempt at choreograhy was a disaster and later changed by a good choreographer to the ballet we see today !

As a former classical dancer I have to seriously question your eye. I have seen this ballet 3 times at the opera bastillle and it remains for me the finest interpretation of Prokofiev's R&J. Frankly, it's a masterpiece. Perhaps ypu should actually SEE the ballet perfomed on stage, before you condemn it.

stix and stones.... Sorry, but this is the best Romeo and Juliet that I have ever seen and it has a very special place in my heart -- So i felt compelled to jump to it's defense. It actually makes me cry at the end... every time.... even with full knowledge of the outcome. It's dark and sinister and very powerful. All of the bullshit pantomime is replaced by movement, so the story and emotions advance without the trite conventions of antiquated ballet ritual. Buy the dvd. You'll fall in love.
The reason they ... ( 3 weeks ago by Nadejda16)
The reason they move like 'that', is because it is Russian ballet which is considerably different to standard ballet. Russian ballet has a completely different style and requires the maximum use of the upper body. Romeo & Juliet in every way embodies this style of ballet. Perhaps its unappealing to you because you haven't been exposed to this particular style.

Ugh I can't stand this. The reason I dislike Paris Opera is their insistence on modifying or creating entirely new choreographies, that just don't work. And feel free to question my eye all you want, boohealy, because as a classical dancer, you should know Paris Opera's reputation re what I wrote about their choreography.

Admitted i dont get ballet - i have to enjoy it from a historical perspective. But the music here is out of this world!! total props for that. And the big thight-overstep is so brutal and well suited for the musical theme. Regardless of what conneiseurs might think of it - to me its the one and only piece of ballet i ever enjoyed.

Somebody needs to undo Paris opera's "creativity" and restore it to its original choreography.

"Its the arrogance of the French is what it is !! "
It's not about FRANCE. It's about dance.
so I don't know why you are talking about my country. Are you american or something like that ? because I believe there is arrogance in all nationalities.

Where did this silly myth that the French are arrogant get started.....They are not arrogant at all... We Americans can be much more arrogant than they....

I greatly admire the dancers of the Paris Opera ballet. It's just their choreography that bothers me greatly. Their dancers are very artistic, but the new choreographies in The Nutcracker, Swan Lake, R&J, etc. really throw me off. I prefer Russian ballet.
