Conservative Ralph Nader by the Southern Avenger

Video Description:
In light of independent candidate for president Ralph Nader's recent comments on Barack Obama and white guilt, SA thought it might be worth noting exactly how much more conservative the consumer advocate is than his Republican contemporaries.

Hillary Clinton, I ... ( 2 months ago by AllySmells001)
Hillary Clinton, I believe at the advice of her campaign manager(s) invoked sexism as she was losing, even when Obama was trying to keep gender and race out of the campaign. And saying "Cosby style talk in front of that church" does sound racist, and I don't know how Obama's manner of speaking would be a factor in not supporting him.
Actually ... ( 2 months ago by TheNavigateur)
Actually immigration control in itself is protectionist for your own workers, not good for Mexican working class too. "What's best for our workers, screw those Mexicans who want to find a better wage". This sentiment is supported by the "Americans above all others" righties but not free-trade righties, and is opposed by fairness-lefties but supported by "American-working-class-first" lefties, what I call "righty-lefties". True fairness is border-security but free movement of people.
I'm all for what's ... ( 2 months ago by fjfjvmvm)
I'm all for what's called protectionism. The clear historical reality is that that is how the richest countries on earth developed. That mass immigration is bad for low wage US workers is evident and you apparently acknowledge that. As to low wage Mexican workers there are arguments to be made that in the absence of any other reforms, free immigration is beneficial to the Mexicans who make it across the border. There are countervailing factors and the matter is more complicated than you say.
Then come up with a ... ( 2 months ago by TheNavigateur)
Then come up with a better system than capitalism for the state of people's monetary wealth. Don't unjustly block the free movement of peoples. That's called selective altruism, you wouldn't block movement from Nevada but you would stop Mexicans. Tell me how that could possibly be considered fair? I personally believe in a slightly different monetary system but do not believe in the restriction of people-movement. I am a fairness-leftie, not a "my workers first" leftie.
Sorry let me ... ( 2 months ago by TheNavigateur)
Sorry let me qualify that: I believe in free movement of people up to a point of fairness between the countries. Not totally unlimited/unmonitored movement.
The Mexican ... ( 2 months ago by Mavrilon)
The Mexican government will deport anyone who enters that country illegally! Why don't the Mexicans who inter this country join together and get their own government to start taking care of its own citizens instead of encouraging them to come here!.And what does justifing illegal immigration say to all of the people who have paid the fees, filled out the forms and waited in line for their turn to enter this country legally ? It's a slap in the face! It says your're a fool for playing by the rules!
First of all it ... ( 2 months ago by TheNavigateur)
First of all it isn't the government, Mexican or otherwise, that takes care of people, it's the economics, given the capitalist system. Secondly I wasn't justifying illegal immigration, I was saying free movement (legal) with border-level security.
Also government ... ( 2 months ago by TheNavigateur)
Also government doesn't control the economics. It's all private enterprise. Some gov'ts like you to think they do, but they don't.

Who fucking cares, it's all a load of shit. Whoever gets elected, the government always gets in. None of the candidates would be anywhere if the power-elite didn't want them to be in.

I am curious. What in the UN Charter would you point to as being a violation of our national sovereignty? The Security Council has all the real power and it can't do anything without US approval due to the veto power. So what has the UN done, or what could it do, to violate our sovereignty? Even Switzerland is part of the UN.
The UN is FOUNDED ... ( 2 months ago by fjfjvmvm)
The UN is FOUNDED on the idea of national sovereignty. Yes it is a reciprocal recognition of sovereignty. This means that we accept we have no right to invade other countries. For instance it makes our invasion of Iraq illegal. But it has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to say about how we govern ourselves here in the US. If you disagree please provide specifics on why you do. Ch's 7 and 1 are the operative bits. Google it. There seems to be great confusion about what the UN is and what it can do.
Nader is enormously ... ( 2 months ago by BronzeEleven)
Nader is enormously leftist on economy, and the main reason he is 'conserbative' on immigration is because it allows corporations to exploit foreign labor much easier which hurts everyone but the corporations themselves.

Actually, he is to the right of Kerry
not necessarily. ... ( 1 month ago by mongobobo)
not necessarily. US industries in the 80's weren't akin to say British coal mines in the 70's. They weren't a drain on the economy. If you give corporations an incentive to produce domestically (tax breaks)and a disincentive to export(tax hikes)they may reevaluate benefits to overseas cheap (or in the case of China, slave) labor.
What it boils down to is this: NAFTA did indeed make Corporate America more profitable (and congealed), but at what cost to US?
You are correct ... ( 1 month ago by lordaltay5)
You are correct that there are many disincentives to doing business in America, which cause jobs to be shipped overseas. America under Bush is no longer the most economically free place in the world (Hong Kong, Singapore, the UK, and even Canada beat us now) NAFTA had no cost, only a gain. Its hardly the Mexicans and Canadians fault that we have self destructive regulation here in the states. Putting up tariffs to cover for the bad regulation is not a solution.

I agree with 90% of the said, except for the immigration issue, which is a bit more complex and needs much more HONEST discussion, beyond the Illegal, Amnesty and Open Border arguments.
I am not a conservative by a far stretch, but also not what you would consider a Democrat either.
I'd prefer to refer to myself as a person who uses common sense and not "politics" in my decision and opinion making.
"Common Sense" does not seem to be popular at the moment though.
Fuck Ralph Nader. ... ( 4 weeks ago by olivemike81)
Fuck Ralph Nader. He thinks the only way he can change things is if he runs for president every 4 years. As far as white guilt goes, more whites feel guilty about voting for him in 2000 than they do about voting for Obama in 08.

Yeah tell that to my parents/aunts/etc. In the late 70's, specifically 1977-segregated restroom stops. People use the restroom on the side of the road. Jasper, TX ~ dragged until his eyeballs popped out b/c of jail. yr 2000 Dallas Morning News reports that a black teen between ages of 14-21 was 7 times more likely to be convicted on a 1st time drug charge, 45 times more likely for 2nd offense

What was my comment? Couldn't find it..sorry, this makes it difficult to reply to your response to me. Perhaps I said something negative to referring to blacks as African Americans - don't know. I worked for Obama's campaign and believe there is some hope. Remember all governments are evil and corrupt however I would like to believe this change will take us to a better place in a government that is responsbile for much atrocities since WW2. Have a good day!

You said"Guilt ridden whites? You have to be kidding me - as a white male I cannot imagine how anyone could have any guilt with what happened to the negro hundreds of years ago or before 1964 for that matter, I was a teenager. I can tell you one thing though and that is the negro trying to call himself African American" 2.)On or before 1964? Yeah tell that to my parents/aunts/etc. In the late 70's, specifically 1977-segregated restroom stops. People use the restroom on the side of the road.
