Conservatives in Indonesia see the new anti-pornography law as a stepping-stone to imposing Sharia Law. But moderates claim the law criminalises women.
Under the proposed law, kissing in public or wearing short clothing would be outlawed. "They're trying to push Indonesians to be conservative", fears feminist Dr Gardis Aviva. The bill is being promoted by the Islamic Defenders Front, led by a cleric who studied Whabbism in Saudi Arabia. But opponents argue that Whabbism goes against traditional Indonesian culture. "We have a very different tradition of Islam. We have never had a history of adopting Arabic culture," explains Dr Ariva. Already, Sharia style laws are creeping into many Indonesia towns.

That's really scary... I hope Indonesian gov't would not go farter than that. If it happen I would never coming back to Indonesia anymore. It's Indonesia, not Arab, for God's sake. The country itself is based on Pancasila & Bhineka Tungga Ika (Unity in Diversity). It's utterly inappropriate if u try to convert the foundation into Sharia Islamic law since the anti-porn bill based on Sharia. As an half Minahasan, I won't be surprised if Indonesia, one day, would face another "East Timor" threat from other provinces such as Bali, North Celebes/North Sulawesi, Molluca, East Nusa Tenggara and Papua.
