I love the first gen t-birds I always rember quarraling with a chevy guy about what was better a T-bird or Corvette. I think they were pretty equal but ford outdid chevy in the interior portion of the competition. I didn't know you were recording train sounds that day too jack lol great work.

Having dealt with fiberglas, I appreciate the metal work of the Tbird! It certainly had style that it shared with the big Ford line!
As always, Ford had a leg up on the interior.
Yeah, Richard, there was a train present..I have a couple vids I will eventually post! LOL! Thanks for the comment! :) Jack

Yeah, Chester, me too! I was talking to the owner, who knew Frank personally! I went to school with Frank's cousin from Jersey City..Frank was from a nearby town. Thanks for the comment! :) Jack

Ford was really ahead of its time here..presaged the later Grand Prix, Riviera and Tornado...and I think anyone would look good sitting in that TBird! Thanks for the comment! :) Jack

I know what you're saying, Seth...Ford eventually proved it could make a sportscar with the GT40, and certainly dabbled with it with Carroll Shelby's proram for Mustangs. Sports cars I guess will always be a highly specialized market, and it's tough to run a general car company and have a true sportscar offering. It costs money, and that is in short supply right now..they'd rather get a decent economy car to insure the company will live on! Thanks for the comment! :) Jack

Well, In the early days, the vette was underpowered and mated to a pretty lame slushbox. The vette was extremely exlusive in 1953-1954. It wasn't untill 1955 that it finally got a V8 and became a bit more of a serios contender. personally, I like sportscar interiors to be sparse without any power anything. The T-Bird was a bit more luxurious for reasons given by Cheddyrod

PS. racounter, keep your eyes out for a Kaiser-Darrin, Nash-Healey, Crosley Hotshot, Cunningham C3 or C4R, SCARAB Mk I or MkII, a 1951 Excalibur J, Kurtis, Glasspar G2, orMaverick Sportster.

Yeah, Chris..I think I finally caught on! These 3 speed jobs were pretty rare, and it's interesting that it's on such a distinguished car! The history is pretty remarkable- amazing when you think who else sat in that driver's seat! And enjoyed the same car you're enjoying...money can't buy that! Thanks for the comment! :) Jack

Indeed it is, Pete! And to know the car is right here, locally is very intriguing. Really
it's amazing it isn't in a museum...but I'm glad it's on the road, doing what a car does, and making an owner and the audience happy! Thanks for the comment and rating! :) Jack

Yeah, I've seen the Kaiser-Darrin, Nash Healey
Crosley Hotshot and the Kurtis...the others no. All interesting attempts at performance/personal cars! Thanks for the comment! :) Jack

Yeah, Shannon..it was a move of desparation I think. The chassis it used was the Henry J, and the same 6 cylinder motor. It, like the other Kaisers couldn't compete with the upcoming V8's of the competition. The top was a strange one that could retract half way, definitely different! Thanks for the comment!

I do not believe a ... ( 4 weeks ago by raconter1)
I do not believe a 4 speed was available, so everybody who drove this car would have been familiar with the pattern, Mick. Normally, I'm sure they would be driven everywhere, but this was a "sporty" car, so they drove it themselves, I'd bet on it. It's a generational difference..these people all learned to drive on cars that had manual shift, the majority of which had shifters on the floor! Column shift became popular in the late 30's. Thanks for the comment, Mick! :) Jack
