i wouldnt be so quick to judge rock band and other rhythm games, it was because of this cd being on rock band that i went out and bought it yesterday you think of it as destroying music just cause u heard it first, i think of it as introducing another generation to great music. appreciate rush fans regardless of when the fans got into the band

Um, because of playing guitar hero, and insuingly rock band, and becoming really good at both, I went out and bought an Epiphone SG. It doesn't diminish our view of music. It inspires! We see what music can be, and wish to get involved, and know how to make something like whats on the game.... My brother too has asked for an actual Pearl drumset for christmas, just because he loved rock band.... your theory, in my opinion, is false.

40 years ago the older generation were making the same observations on their young people. Their complaint was that the youth were abondoning proper music (folk, swing, country etc) to play that psuedo musical instrument - the guitar. Plus ca chance.

That is not an apt analogy. Playing a game controller that does not actually activate a musical instrument is not music. I have no objections to playing any instrument from a tambourine to a synthesizer. But Rock Band & Guitar Hero are not musical activities, they are games. My objection is to how a hollow facsimile of an activity is now more popular (because it is easier) that actually doing the real thing. This is cultural decay. Ce n'est pas le meme chose.

I think you just diffussed your own argument. RB & GH are not musical activities they are games. How can you object to kids playings games? Game playing has always been more popular to youth than learning an instrument. Its just now the games are more suficticated. Would you object to kids in past singing into a hairbrush? or playing air guitar? (or a tennis racquet as I used to do)or drumming on their mothers tupperware? Its no threat to music. Comming from a musician, I've played trumpet for 8years, and recently picked up guitar, it is hard. But it's well worth it. And this new generation of video games based on music is there, in my opinion, to expose kids, as well as adults, to what is out there. I've bought cds of things I've heard or played on DDR Rock Band and GH. As I said before, I bought my SG because of Guitar Hero. Sorry about the copyright thing dude, I love the song. Hope that ass munch gets what he deserves..... ED lol
