Video Description:
For this video, I used a montage of "kissing scenes" from various films. I began compiling various clips several months ago, but when the time came for me to begin assembling them for this video, I realized it simply didn't work. Then I recalled the film "Cinema Paradiso." and my vision shifted toward something I thought could work better.
In the film "Cinema Paradiso," the main character Toto has been called home following the death of his lifelong friend Alfredo, the projectionist at the local cinema in a small Italian village. Alfredo had been a father figure for Toto when he was growing up and together they shared a passion for the cinema.
One of the storylines centered around the town priest who viewed every film before it was shown to the public. He insisted that every scene of a sexual nature, including all kissing scenes, should be cut from the film before he would allow it to be shown in the theatre. Alfredo would then cut each scene from the film and told Toto that though he tried to splice them back into the films before he returned them, many times he couldn't remember where the cut film was supposed to go. Consequently, he had bins overflowing with snippets of censored film which Toto would sometimes inspect with delight through the glow of the projector light.
When Toto grew up, Alfredo persuaded him to go away and find his destiny elsewhere and to never come back to the small town, insisting that there was nothing there for him. 30 years later, Toto, now a successful film director, returns to the village to attend the funeral of Alfredo, the man who had for all intents and purposes, been like a father to him. He begins reminiscing over his life and realizes that true love has always evaded him and pales in comparison to what he saw in the movies.
Alfredo's widow tells Toto, "He left something for you," a reel of film which Toto views alone in a local theatre. He's moved to tears to see that the film Alfredo had left for him is a compilation of the various kissing scenes that he had cut from different films 30 years before.\

For this video, I used that scene in the theatre from as well as many of the kissing scenes. But I included a few of the scenes I had compiled myself splicing them in among the others. The only scenes in color are from "Cinema Paradiso," and scenes featuring Karen. All the other clips I added have been converted to grayscale or sepia tones, and all have had "aged" effects added to make them look more like the other scenes.
Recorded previously by Jennifer Warnes, "You're The One" was recorded by the Carpenters in 1977 for the "PASSAGE" album when Karen was just 27 years old. When it came time to compile the songs for the album, it was decided through the toss of a coin that "I Just Fall In Love Again" would be included on the album over "You're The One." The song was first heard in the TV movie, "The Karen Carpenter Story," in 1989. Later that year, the song was finally included on the album "LOVELINES."
"You're the One" is one of Karen's finest performances, and I feel that it has all the best qualities of Karen and Richard's performances - Karen's sensitive reading of the lyrics, utilizing both the upper and lower ranges of her voice and Richard's arrangement as well as his piano accompaniment.
