Hey goth was originaly interchangable with the term "post-punk"is called emo these days.I bet it would seriously tick off alot of people to degrade sp by calling them "Emo" even though emo was originaly a sub culture descending from punk rock to.Industrial was music that became popularized by goth culture.However music that emo`s listen to (like disturbed)do have alot of synth. But its all synth and heavy guitar over and over. Puppy could reinvent their music.Something that was not carried over.

goth is guitars, base, drums, keyboard, dark, with less emphasis on synth (in most cases). Industrial is alot louder than most goth music, its heavily synthesized and germans beat each other while having sex to it.

I wear them and listened to Bauhaus long before I knew of the Nu-Metal genre. Who is to say that even bands such as Bauhaus, Joy Division, Siouxie etc. define the goth culture. I believe attitude and general open mindedness to other people is the first step, character goes miles in comparison to way of dress and genre of music you listen to.

Actually evildnalor, Industrial wasn't popularized by Goth. They are two different things entirely. Goth was like you said 'post' punk, which centered around a british club known as The Bat Cave back in the 70's. Industrial was started around the same time, but in a different part of England. The main band known for coining that phrase was Throbbing Gristle, a group of performance artists. They were from an industrialised english town called Birmingham.

The original music that was called industrial was meant to sound like the machinery they grew up around. There were little to no vocals, and everything was done 'experimentally'. In other words it was done using various homemade instruments. The type of industrial SP play is known as IDM or EBM. IDM is industrial dance music and EBM is electronic body music for those who didn't know. They spearheaded the second wave of industrial.

from what i gather... the term industrial music sprouted from industrial records. They were a label who signed primarily artists who sounded far different from others which electronic bands and such were generally different for the time period.

industrial did not originate in germany evildnalor, it came from the UK with bands like throbbing gristle and cabaret voltaire, but germany seemed to embrace it a lot in the 80's when bands like neubaten were created after a good deal the original industrial acts disbanded. but original industrial wasnt really limited to conventional instruments. at this point industrial is a completely different entity than what it started out as.

i personally wouldn't consider Skupp to be either EBM or IDM. I actually Think skinny Puppy is relatively similar to some of the earlier industrial bands considering what was considered industrial at the time (mid-late 80's/early 90's).

i hate to break it to you fella but idm has in fact got absolutely sod all to do with industrial [though it now crosses over with acts like gridlock, architect, hecq, autoclav1.1 etc etc] and in fact stands for [I]ntelligent [D]ance [M]usic and was pioneered by acts in the late 80's early 90's such as autechre, boards of canada, aphex twin and squarepusher.
