For those of you who don't look real deep into Eva, it's highly implied that Asuka didn't break the kiss like that because she found Shinji's breath to be foul, or anything, but was embarassed and annoyed that he didn't wrap his arms around her. Later, during one of her mind-attacks from the flying angel, she insistantly questions Shinji in her mind, asking him, "Why are you there, damn you? You won't even hold me!" Rewatch the scene with this in mind - might make you look at it different.
