I agree that the first four guitarists you named are good composers, but Laiho is not super good. He has some awesome guitar chops, but the music doesn't really stand out...

well that's just personal preference. i think he makes some great riffs and some awesome solos.
so back to the point. herman li. he is neither a good composer nor a fantastic player. i just think he gets a lot of undeserved credit.

Herman Li is only known because of through the fire and flames on guitar hero III. People say they're the fastest just because not too many popular guitarists shred nowadays. (and by popular, I mean like bands that are constantly on MTV, rock Band, and Guitar Hero)

MrPie455, Herman Li was well known way before GH3 was ever even thought about man. It isn't because just the song fire and the flames that got him recognized, it is it extraordinary skills on guitar. Listen to how clean his sweeps are. They are flawless. You don't see shred on mtv becuase mtv blows fucking ass now days. Hell, even fuse sucks ass today!

I never thought JerryC was that good of a sweeper. His real talents lie in his crazy use of pinch harmonics and the timing he uses them at, as well as his immense creative ability. He is a good composer. I wouldn't say sweep picking is his forte, but he ain't bad at it either.

Huh? "most opinions"? Show me some of them before talking bullshit, and you call yourself a "guitar freak" but cant even recognize an amazing player in every aspect.
Just check any of his other songs, a "sucky" guitar player couldnt do even 1% of what he can create in music.

Ive seen your videos, you are good, in fact, you are greatly talented, but just because you can play as good as you do, it doesnt mean you're better than everyone. Honestly, and I think you must know this already, you are not half as good as JerryC (there are many aspects that determine this), but you are still really good.

I see you play a totally different style than this, and Im thinking you're just not a "huge" fan of Jerry's style of playing, but still there's no need to flame him or refuse to give him credits for what he does and what he has created, he practiced several hours a day and shared "blood, sweat and tears" just like you have and any other good guitar player has. There's no need to "degrade" someone like you did on your comment.

... to really keep up with the great guitarist, he needs to go a bit further.
btw, i dont think i am a talented guitarist / musician either. im studying music at uni and i see tons of REALLY amazing young virtuosos every day on the internet, so i think there is much more out there than just jerry c and i never wanted to "degrade" him. ...and he gets enough credit i think. :) thx for your honest opinion and i will watch out how i expess myself in the future. =)
