We've noticed that people don't have any idea what (or where) we're talking about when we mention that we recently traveled to Chernobyl & Pripyat. Pripyat is a completely modern abandoned city about 2km from Chernobyl, inside of the Chernobyl exclusion zone, in Ukraine. Over 20 years ago (26 April, 1986), there was an accident in one of the nuclear reactors there that became the worst technological disaster in history. We got some really fantastic footage of both cities as well as the reactor. When we put the film together, we thought it would be helpful to include some information about what happened. Here's the final product.
This footage of Chernobyl and Pripyat was filmed on August 7, 2007 by Jason Strain. Narration is by Laura Corliss. Music by Brokenkites.

U can live there if you want radiation poisening. The levels in some of thos areas are 45 time higher then what is safe. Some where I also read that it takes some 600 years for the radation clear.

Documents I belive by the local goverenment which are not hard to get. And They are guided by people to prevent people from messing around with the items and buildings. I also belive there is barbed wire all around the ghost town.

I want to point out that the people were not evacuated immediately, as the video says. They were forced to leave 36 hours later. They were told to pack some light clothes and money to last them 3 days. They assumed they would be back in 3 days time. Why? To avoid people from panicking. Some people even hid in their apartments refusing to leave until militia found them. Each resident left with an average of 40 rems each by the time they left.

I am not pro nuclear. Yes, TMI almost went to meltdown in 69 but you must understand that European/western reators are very different to the badly built and designed soviet ones. Perhaps learn about the difference to Positive void co-efficient and negative void co-efficient. It may ease your mind.

it didnt all escape into the atmosphere, it leaked out underneath and mixed with sand and became a molten glass type liquid, the first finding of this was a solidified mass they nick named the 'elephants foot' due to its shape, it was the highest reading of radiation at that point, it even gave off warmth....

Few weeks after the disaster I was given a iod shot that was supposed to bring down effects od radiation... Nice day for a kid that didn't like to go to the kindergarten. Anyway... I'm going there next may... And the movie ? It's brilliant... Really touching.. thx
