Those Alembic basses are a joy to play. Wish I bought the one I used to play during our drummers lessons way back in the mid '70's.

It's an Alembic Spyder alright, and that man is the definition of technician bass player. He can play virtually anything. Spread this around your bassist friends so that they know how this 4-string should be played...

Did he use standard tuning? It doesn't really sound like it in this video...

Doesn't sound like it to me either. Funny thing is, most bass players I've met didn't even know there was a standard tuning for bass lol

Jaco was great, but John did for the bass what Hendrix did for the guitar, and did it before Jaco....Also how can you compare a rock n roll player of Johns stature to Jacowhos a jazz player?Anyway John did it b4 Jaco...
Had the great Jaco ... ( 1 day ago by IiiioooiiiI)
Had the great Jaco lived today (as well as John), Jaco would snatch that bass^^^ and play it like JOHN had NEVER HEARD IT BEING PLAYED B-4!@NelsonLuvsTits!...'did what Hendrix did for the guitar'.....PLEASE DUDE GIVE THESE READERS ALL A BREAK!..LMFAO!~It was the geniuos of Jaco Pastorious whom brought the electric bass from the background COMPLETELY into the forefront!Jaco Pastorious played the bassthe way ANY electric bass IS 2 BE PLAYED!Jaco developed the blueprint dum fuck!geez!~

it is standard 440 tunning ,some nice ghost notes and hammer-ons some good 16th note stuff
and yes mad fills----the guy was a great rock player so lets all relax with the jaco stuff its not a fair comparison (in my opinion) john could play melodic as hell too when he wanted (just check out pure and easy or gettin' in tune)also keep in mind the guy HAD to fillin alot of sound

WTF? Looks like I should log off my user name before I leave work next time. I know the guy who posted this, he's this dude who really loves The Who, and with good reason too. I never heard of Jaco, but I looked some of his stuff up and I can tell he was instrumental(pardon the pun) in developing modern bass. But you have to admit, for his time John did some amazing things for the bass.
Sorry about that ... ( 12 hours ago by catweazlex)
Sorry about that Nelson ,by the time I realized I hadnt even signed in under my own name,I had replied to that stupid comment by liii000iiil,it was too late,my bad!!Whos the better singer, Dave Lee Roth or Placido Domingo?Any more genius thoughts????

Except for Roger Daltrey occasionally popping into frame, you'd never know this was at a concert-Entwistle looked like he was in his living room playing, he's so laid-back-killer riffs, especially at 6:50ish

I know this comes from The Kids Are Alright documentary. However, does anyone have any bass isolation (audio only is fine) from "Heaven and Hell" off of Live at Leeds? The bassline from that version of that song is the best bass that probably anyone will ever hear, other than this.
