Its kinda funny that the 5.2 was more powerful than the 5.9 from 1990-1993 (5.2 got magnum in 1990 pushing power to 235hp/ 310lb torque).The 5.9 only had 175hp / 285lb torque from 1980-1993. In 1993 the 5.9 got magnum (245hp/330lb torque). The last editions of the 5.2 and 5.9 engines (ending 2001-2002) was 5.2= 220hp/ 295lb torque (do to more restricting emissions equipment ), 5.9= 250hp/ 345lb torque. (5.2 discontinued in 2001 and replaced with 4.7l, 5.9 (v8) in 2002 replaced with 5.7l Hemi)

The 5.9 in the 98 ZJ accelerated faster stock for stock than the 5.7 hemi in the newer WKs. 98 5.9 limited was the fastest accelerating jeep until the 2006 release of the SRT-8...which I want despite the fact that they get horriblbe ****ing mileage.

My 1996 5.2 ZJ gets 20 mpg. I would say that is decent for a v8 box on wheels all time four wheel drive vehicle. My 1997 4.0 ZJ gets 22-25 mpg. Not bad for a box on wheels with a little I6 4x4. Now on the other hand my 96 4.0 XJ get a max of 10 mpg. But thats pushing 34's with stock gears!

I hate to sound stupid but I bought a 98 Jeep Grand Cherokee Ltd 5.2 v8. Now if the 5.2, and 5.9 were just stock would there really be much of a difference between the two?

there is no definite answers, even amongst us jeepers. it all depens on the race conditions, what speed starting from, whether its from a dig or now, etc.

the only thing is that there was never such a thing as a 5.9l ZJ until 1998. i don't think that was the point you were making though. i think that the 5.2 was put to rest after the introduction of the 4.7l WJ in 1998?99?

These are both 98. ZJ's are much more responsive to mods than the WJ is. also i think that 5.2 did pretty damn good against the 5.9 better than any WJ could do except for an HO of course.
