That was the age when some of the best songs were written, great melodies and superb lyrics sung by SINGERS who observed the technique of singing. When I listen to the tuneless crap written nowadays it makes me cringe

Never heard a lousy rendition of this particular piece. I suppose the excellence of the tune makes it impossible to play it any other way than great. My favourite version is that by Enrique Madraguerez, Carmen Cavallaro does a nice job too.

I think your friends don't want to see the movie because it deals with bureacratic absurdities that leave the viewer wondering could this really happen? Ever? ...and although the film treats the hero in a nightmarish manner, the viewer is released from the horror of a "1984" reality because there's always that place in the hero's mind (and the viewers) where he can escape pain and agony...a sort of thought anesthesia

78s are actually usually made from shellac, not vinyl (which is why they are brittle). Very nice record! I have to get myself a copy. I, too, have a great collection of records....mostly U.S.A. big bands, but I'm starting a Cugat/Molina collection, among others. Such good music....especially on my 1940 Silvertone Radio Recorder! (with modern needle and cartridge, of course...to save the records)
