I am almost always disappointed with cover versions that are signature songs of another band. The music is okay (the World's Most Dangerous Band is made up of great musicians-but its Zepplin-how do you compare?)but Patty's vocals kic-ass. I am surprised by how much I like it. Maybe its because she's not trying to copy it exactly or take too many liberties with it.Just a great voice belting out a great rock classic. Thanks for posting.I love youtube.

Thank you! It's been stuck in my head for ~20 years and I never thought I'd see it again. I was starting to doubt whether it was really as good as I remembered. The audacity of taking a Zeppelin standard and nailing it! This is one of about three live TV performances I've ever seen worth remembering, up with Mariah singing "Vanishing" on SNL and Kelly Clarkson singing "Up to the Mountain" with Jeff Beck. And from a purely technical point of view, she's a better singer than Plant.

No I agree with you.I think she sings this better than Robert Plant also.I just listend to her sing it live and listened to a couple of live versions by Led Zepplin..I think she sings it better live than Plant does.This is almost as good as the Led Zeppelin Album version.Imagine her doing a studio version of this..Ann Wilson of Heart could have tore this song up at one time also.Saw them back in 1979..Man I would have loved for her to sing for Van Halen..Would have been wicked.Never saw this B4

Later Patty admitted she made a mistake for not accepting Van Halen's offer to her for lead singer. Wow! Just think how awesome Van Halen would have been! They would have been the biggest band ever. Patty is just fantastic.

I was just watching Goodbye to You and feeling like her voice needed something more substantial backing it up... and then I find this gritty little gem. The lady's got pipes, plain and simple and with the heavy guitar behind her it really showcases what she's got. She is the ideal incarnation of a rock singer. And kudos to David Letterman for having her on so many times over the years.
