i been skating 15 years and havent done anything in the last 5 yrs or so! i need to get my numbers right but anyhow! Stopping is easy i managed to teach 5 people today and 6 yesterday in the UK as we dont have many skaters and my methods all got them to the stopping position as a beginner..

I been practicing all the moves from basic to intermediate and my skates were a grade 2 sharpen and now their blunt lol

That's right. Now you need to get a 1/4 hollow radius sharpening. Or, it's called "quarter inch hollow sharpening". Most places won't do but if you can find one that can, you will be amazed at what you can do. You might have to tell the guy you'll tip him some good money if he sharpens them 1/4. Always worked for me.

one time i went skating for my friends birthday and we got our skates rented but the blades were this wide on the bottom [ ] not sharp at all and my friend said all skates r like that is this true or are they ment to be pretty sharp?

Hey ive been using rental skates since day one at skating....and ive bought myself some CCM'S Vector 3's and ive been trying to 'shift my hips' to the side....but i just get stuck and the skates wont rotate....what am i doing wrong?

I can't tell what you're doing wrong without a video of your attempt. Perhaps you're not using your arms or pushing off from an edge.. who knows.

did you sharpen the blade and custom fit them? also, what he forgot to mention that your really just digging your blade into the ice to slow down, so it isn't just turning sideways.

Yes but you'll need a deeper hollow sharpening than 1/2. You'll have to get 3/8 or quarter.
