In-depth interview with internationally renowned author, journalist and syndicated columnist Naomi Klein on her new book "The Shock Doctrine: The Rise of Disaster Capitalism". Klein is best known for her book from the year 2000, the international bestseller "No Logo: Taking Aim at the Brand Bullies". It was called "A Movement Bible" by the New York Times referring to its incredible impact on the anti-globalization movement.
In this extraordinary interview, Klein discusses the key ideas behind her concept of The Shock Doctrine and its importance as an alternate economic, social and political history of the last thirty years. She describes how the free market ideas of economist Milton Friedman and the Chicago School fostered the impact of shock from the 1970s Pinochet regime in Chile to the Bush administration today.

There's also a very fascinating story of a mutiny that Washington had to put down in 1781, and had two of the three leaders of it executed by their own friends as an "example," in his words.
Very great book, a refreshing take on history than what was taught to me and others in the public education system.

Capitalism is growth based. therefore it is out of touch with nature, this being said to stop growth to fix nature, one would have to kill Capitalism that is where the paradox comes in, capitalism is growth based. the material world "the planet" is finite. I read the book cover-to-cover in about five days - it was the scariest shit I ever hope to learn but I'd never willingly go back to ignorance. I hope that all the neoliberals die of painful cancer. Why do you make this kind of interview? OK to popularize the book which is fair enough but what about questions that are not so easy to answer by Naomi Klein for example how does she see the relationship between neoliberalism and violance? is it cause-effect link or is it only that neoliberalism takes advenateg of the shook that violence creates or maby finally there is no all encompassing narrative just particular cases?

The only thing our corporation are doing to those poor nations is giving them jobs. It is precicely because there is no limit to how they can pay thier workers in these countries that big companies always go to the country with the lowest quality of life and create jobs there. If you force big companies to give a "decent" minimal wage to african workers, said big company will where the quality of life is average. Besides, china raised up from dust to superpower in 30 years because of capitalism

Today I did a great thing everyone. My professor wants the class to purchase and read Shock Doctrine. I purchased John McCain's FAITH OF MY FATHERS in the book store and I walked out without paying for Shock Doctrine. How could I. How could I let my money go towards the interests of this woman. The bookstore benefitted by me taking one less Shock Doctrine, a book which makes the store look bad for having on the shelves. Most Canadians don't even care for this derelict woman.

If the Communist system was more productive, it would be us waiting hat in hand to trade with Cuba, instead of the other way around. Besides, as far as I know, the United States is the only country who does refuses to trade with them. I might be wrong about that though.
