3D Medical Animation: Gallbladder Removal Surgery due to Gallstones

Uploaded by: nucleusanimation
Video Description:
This 3D medical animation shows laparoscopically assisted gallbladder removal surgery, or cholecystectomy. The animation begins by showing the normal anatomy of the liver and gallbladder. Over time, gallstones form within the gallbladder, blocking the cystic duct, and causing the gallbladder to become enlarged and inflamed. The procedure, sometimes called a "lap-chole", begins with the insertion of four trocar devices, which allow the physician to see inside the abdomen without making a large incision. Air is added to the abdominal cavity to make it easier to see the gall bladder. Next, we see a view through the laparascope, showing two surgical instruments grasping the gallbladder while a third severs the cystic duct. After the gallbladder is removed, the camera pans around to show that the cystic artery and vein, have already been clipped to prevent bleeding.

I HAd mine done 3 months ago, i am still eating everything i did before... fish, meat, french fries, even curries! Obviously i ate very few fatty foods after the operation and slowly returned to my normal diet. I have had no complications other than an upset stomach and bowels after the op which was completely gone within 10 days. Have no fear, this op is ok!

hey, any tips on how should i prepare myself for my upcoming gallbladder removal surgery?,,,,
I wanted to know how difficult the anesthesia part is. Is it very painful?
Well, your doctor ... ( 1 month ago by snubagod)
Well, your doctor will give you instructions pre-op, I was not allowed to eat from midnight the night before my operation, which was scheduled fo 1130 am. The anesthesia itself is not difficult or painful in my opinion, you will be given an IV drip and the anesthesia will be given to you via that. Of course you will feel light-headed after the op and I had a sore throat from the tube they inserted, but it is all very tolerable.
The uncomfortable ... ( 1 month ago by snubagod)
The uncomfortable part is the recovery from the incisions, I'm not trying to scare you at all but you do not fully realise just how much you use your ab muscles until you have an op like this (or appendix removal, which I had 10 years ago). That was definately the most uncomfortable for me, things like sitting up, laying down, walking, coughing, laughing... All the things you do on a daily basis will hurt for a few days.
Just take it easy, ... ( 1 month ago by snubagod)
Just take it easy, use very slow deliberate movements and you'll be fine, I was back at work after 5 days! All in all, it will hurt a bit, but it's a walk in the park compared to the pain I had from the bloody gallstones themselves! hope this helps....

Thanks for those ... ( 1 month ago by laurenceconyas23)
Thanks for those information,,,,, At least i will be be able to prepare my self for the possible effects after i will undergo surgery. What i also fear is that what if the method that they are going to apply to me is the traditional method wherein they will slit my abdomen by 8 inches.
Thinking of that gives me ghost bumps.....
By the way, thanks again for the information!!!!!

I just found out I had two large stones by accident; I had XRs done at my chiropractic office and these two large artifacts showed up in my upper abdomen, so I went and had an other X-ray done at work (i work in X-ray:) and it showed up again, so I got an Ultrasound and sure enough I have two very large stones, but I have no pain! so I'll be waiting them out for a little longer til I can afford it, or til they start to act up!
Gallstones had made ... ( 2 days ago by frglee)
Gallstones had made my life a misery for 8 months with very bad nightime attacks...I had the gall bladder removed like this as my first ever hospital procedure a few months ago. It was straightforward and no problems and I was back home within 30 hours.A little bit of pain after the op but nothing too bad and all better within a week.
Don't worry,it's a pretty easy op!
