Thile is such a freaking moron...look at him bouncing around like a little fairy. He's doing it for show. I know someone who was friends with him for years, and he does NOT do all that when they play in practices or when he's practicings alone. That just goes to show you, it's for show. And it does NOTHING for me, as the viewer, except piss me off. Way to suck Thile. Nancy.

Couldn't agree with you less. There are very few brains that work like his. When he's practicing he's working out the kinks and technique. In a show, he's beyond that. He's moved to feeling and he's accessing that side of him that you may never feel. When you've given up what he's given up to be able to play the way he plays, then you can comment. He doesn't play to make you happy. He plays because that's what takes his pain away.

If you can watch and listen to THAT performance and come away with nothing more than a rant about the way that one of the performers moves while playing, you are truly doing yourself no favors. wow ur dumb. im a jazz pianist, and when i practice i take it seriously, i work out everything i want to do in a solo...when it comes time to actually play the music, i have to take those licks and notes and give them expression, give them feeling, because music moves fast, and in jazz or bluegrass or any other music that requires a lot of improv, u have to be able to do it in an instant, and thats what thile is doing here

Does anyone know the composition they are playing? I will have a hard time believing this is all improv, mostly because of the unison starts and stops at the end. Did Meyer right it? Partially improv? Thanks to anyone who knows.

It's partial improv. Unless I'm mistaken I think Thile composed it. And I use that term very loosely, more like "hey let's throw these chords together and see what we come up with." Most of his "Not All Who Wander Are Lost" album songs are of that general description but it's an amazing album.

Hamilton doesnt even sing. yea he is fast, but chris thile has some pipes. He is a musical genious. and well rounded, he can play any style of music he wants on the mandolin. hes not stuck to one sound.
