That's a matter of opinion. You also have to put into account the drastic changes Dir en grey goes through in every album. When he was VK, he was a lot more emotional in my opinion. Their vocals sound about equal, ha. Most VK artists have similar vocals. I'm saying this from 10 years of listening to it.

And to those going on about Kyou's style and vocals, that's the point of his music. Kyou is a lot more "extreme" which isn't better or worse, it's just different.
They dropped the VK style in 02, and are more hard rock. The type of screaming is different than Taion, where Ruki is trying to mimic a tortured woman
They're totally different bands. One isn't better than the other, they're no longer the same genre.

I admit that I am sometimes reminded of Diru when I hear GazettE songs, or watch their lives on video; however, it is mostly because Kyo is so extreme, that he is memorable for immersing himself deeply in his music. Ruki is also greatly involved with his music; he is passionate as hell. I think that might be why we compare the two bands. Ultimately though, I believe their music is completely different and unique. I don't think rabid, angry fandom would be appreciated much by either band.

I would have to disagree. The GazettE was influenced by LUNA SEA, rather than Diru. Dir en Grey may've set the standard for extreme visual kei performances, but that doesn't mean that every band that execute such performances are just imitating Dir en Grey. It may have been inspired by Diru, or Diru's style was just popularized; however, the technique has now spread in different directions.

Just because Ruki, or any other artist is so involved in their music, does not signify that they are just copying Kyo's style. Dir en Grey does not own that vocal style. It's possible that many other bands before them, either Japanese or non-Japanese have practiced that style.

i agree with kizume8 :3, too many arguments and disccusions over music bands. If you guys wanna have an argument or discussion about someguy wannabe w/e, how they surpassed who, who's better than who, or w/e; then just open a forum called Visual-kei j-rock discussion and discuss it there.
