Nice video about such a tragic event. Sadly St Johns Church that hold the Pals chapel has closed due to lack of funds to do repairs. Oswaldtwistle mills do have a room remembering all those who died.

Thanks for the kind comments. I didn't know about St John's church closing - how very sad. We hope to do justice to Peter Whelan's play; we saw it perfomed in Chorley a couple of years ago - a tremendous piece, very powerful and moving. Hopefully it will keep the memory of the Pals alive to new generations for many years to come.

Beautiful and moving video, as an Accrington boy of 47 I am ashamed to admit that I dont really know the story in any detail, when is the production at Ormskirk ?

The week leading up to Remembrance Sunday - Thursday 8th to Saturday 10th November 2007. Thanks for the comments: I remember hearing the music during the closing titles of the film Platoon, and felt it was perfect to accompany the montage of photographs.

The music is Samuel Barber's Adagio for strings - supposedly the most emotional piece of music ever written.

Strangely, a friend told me about Mike's song, which I heard for the first time this week. I agree: a fitting tribute.

This video just fills me with emotion. My wife's great uncle died in the Battle of Loos on 25/09/15 but the Battle rarely reported (61,000 casualties for the whole campaign), which fails into insignificance compared to the later disasters!
A great posting, thank you.

Thanks for the complimentary comments. My grandfather was 25 when he died at Arras in 1917. The official war record for the regiment said that it was a quiet day; apparently he was caught on the barbed wire - his body was never recovered. The numbers lost in the great battles are, of course, almost inconceivable and those are the ones we tend to remember; but even on "quiet days", every death was significant.

To this day everyone in Accy knows better than to listen to their so called elders and betters.
