I never said that though, you've just made that up. What I did say is that Stargate was a largely forgettable movie, that MGM didn't see fit to make sequels for. The idea that they'd turn down the opportunity to make a bucket load of cash on sequels just to keep a few SG-1 fans on the internet happy is absurd, especially given that there's quite a lot of support for the Devlin sequels within the fandom anyway.

MGM didn't made the series instead of the sequel because they didn't want to risk a sequel. So obviously no the film wouldn't have generated a sequel under normal conditions, we know this because it DIDN'T.

I MEANT that popular movies IN GENERAL receive movie sequels (either in the theatres or direct-to-video) NOT Stargate in particular.

Okay. Maybe I took what you said accidentally out of context. For that, I am sorry.
Anyway, perhaps Stargate IS a forgettable movie. But just so you know, Star Wars was pretty much forgotten through the late 80s, early ninties until the novel "Heir to the Empire" came out. Then Star Wars was popular again, a bunch of novels, comic books, and video games were produced. And eventually a crappy Prequel Trilogy was filmed and released.

I think the movie was generally received decent reception. IMHO, I don't see where it really deserved a series though. It was an alright film, but The show just beats to death the same concept, and does it in a star trekkie serialized fashion.

Great movie, it was intresting the choice of weapons used by the Airforce. HK MP-5's for all but the Major who had an HK-11 with a scope. But it was funny that in the cast list, the say each of the team members is a leutenant; Koalski is clearly wearing the oak leaf of a major, and the other guys mostly have non-com patches on.

This trailer did it's job - I remember going to see it in the theater - and being pretty disappointed. Something about those uncomfortably long sequences of Kurt Russell saluting his little buddy across the dunes in slow motion... Great premise though. Great enough to inspire two of the best TV shows ever. Some things just work better on TV though.
